Data annotation jobs for experienced image annotators

ImageLabeling offers data annotation jobs to experienced freelance annotators who want steady, paid image labeling work. You join a vetted workforce, pass a qualification task, and get matched to client projects where you label inside the client's own workspace. Joining is free for annotators, and dedicated retainers are paid monthly.

Image annotation jobs for people who already know the work

This is not an entry level program. Our clients are computer vision teams that train production models, so they need annotators who understand why a box is drawn tight, why an occluded object still gets a label, and why a guideline matters more than personal judgment.

Domain knowledge is a plus. Industrial inspection, retail products, aerial and field imagery, warehouse and robotics scenes, and safety equipment on job sites are the areas clients ask for most often.

  • Hands on experience with bounding boxes, polygons, segmentation masks or keypoints
  • Comfort with written labeling guidelines, edge case rules and class hierarchies
  • Steady attention over long sessions, with consistent quality from the first image to the last
  • Clear written English for questions and comments to reviewers
  • A reliable computer and connection, and a desktop browser

How vetting with a qualification task works

Every applicant completes a qualification task before any client work. The task is a small set of images with a written guideline, done in the same editor clients use.

You can retake the task for an annotation type after improving your skills. We do not rank people by speed alone. A careful annotator who follows the guideline beats a fast one who guesses.

  • Pick the annotation types you want to be considered for, for example bounding box annotation, polygons and masks with the image segmentation tool, or skeletons with the keypoint annotation tool
  • Label the task images according to the guideline, using the keyboard shortcuts (B box, P polygon, K keypoint, A accept, D next image)
  • Our reviewers check accuracy, consistency with the guideline and how you handled the hard cases
  • You get a result for each annotation type, and only the types you passed are used for matching

How labeling work reaches you

Work is assigned through the managed labeling offer, called data annotation services. A client on the Business or Enterprise plan requests a dedicated annotator and describes the domain, annotation types, expected volume and working hours. We propose annotators whose qualification results and experience fit that request.

You never download client images to your own device, and you never share them outside the workspace. Treat every project as confidential. Client images are used only to label their dataset.

  • You see the project brief before you accept a match
  • The client invites you to their workspace with the labeler role and access only to the projects they choose
  • You work in the browser, inside the client's workspace, on the client's label schema
  • AI pre-labels are often switched on, so much of the work is reviewing, correcting and completing the model's draft with auto labeling
  • The client's reviewer approves your work or sends it back with a comment, and on Business plans your QA score per labeler is visible to the client

How annotators are paid

Dedicated retainers are paid monthly. The rate for each retainer is shown to you with the project brief, before you accept the match, so you decide with full information. We do not publish typical earnings and we do not promise a number of hours or projects. The amount of work depends on client demand and on how well your skills match open requests.

  • Joining the workforce is free for annotators
  • No fees to apply, no paid courses, no equipment to buy from us
  • Payment terms and the payout method are agreed when you accept your first retainer

What clients value in an annotator

Clients keep annotators who make their reviewers' work lighter. That means asking a question in a comment instead of guessing, flagging images that the guideline does not cover, and staying consistent when the batch gets repetitive. Your work history inside each workspace, including review outcomes, is what builds your track record for the next match.

FAQ

Do I need a computer vision background to apply?

No formal background is required, but you need real labeling experience. The qualification task shows whether your work meets client standards.

Can I choose which projects I work on?

Yes. You see the brief and rate for each proposed match and decide whether to accept it.

Is this a full time job?

It is freelance work. A dedicated retainer can take a large share of your month, but we do not guarantee volume or hours.
